What is the TRPM8 Channel?
The TRPM8 channel is a homotetramer, consisting of four identical subunits, each with a transmembrane domain composed of six helices (S1–6). The first four helices (S1–4) function as the voltage sensor, allowing the binding of menthol, icilin, and other similar channel agonists. Helices S5 and S6, along with a connecting loop, form the pore of the channel, which is a non-selective cation channel with a highly conserved hydrophobic region. This intricate structure enables a high level of specificity in response to cold and menthol stimuli, ultimately leading to ion flow through the protein channel.
How OBLITERATE Works
OBLITERATE works by activating the TRPM8 channel, which is expressed in human white adipocytes. Activation of this channel induces the "browning" of white adipocytes, a process that supports the control of adipose tissue metabolism and body energy balance. Browning refers to the conversion of white fat cells into brown-like fat cells, which are more metabolically active and can burn calories to produce heat.
